严格厌氧古菌，嗜热杆菌、革兰氏染色反应阳性，在最适生长条件下（60℃、 pH7.9-8.2、 150 mg/L NaCl）的倍增时间是1.5小时，利用H2/CO2或甲酸盐生长，基因组GC含量为55 mol%。
